We are excited to offer this workshop led by Graham Macindoe and Susan Stellin exploring how storytellers have addressed addiction and recovery and how those narratives can be presented in a more balanced and nuanced way. Four biweekly meetings are held online on Sundays, from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. EST beginning September 20th and ending November 1st, 2020. Class meeting dates are: Sunday Sept 20 2:30-4pm; Sunday Oct 4 2:30-4pm; Sunday Oct 18 2:30-4pm; Sunday Nov 1 2:30-4pm (in person in Rochester, NY if COVID situation allows, location TBA)
Medical professionals and community leaders in treatment and harm reduction, as well as people who have personal experience with addiction and recovery, will engage closely with journalists, photographers, artists, and RIT students in this online workshop. Together, they will seek ways to generate a more complex set of stories about addiction and recovery that help to help break down stigma, question stereotypes, and change how we treat people who need help. The workshop will lead up to an exhibition of photography on this subject, curated by Graham Macindoe and Susan Stellin, and featuring work by artists from across the country as well as local artists to be held at RIT's City Art Space on Main Street in early November.
To register for this workshop, click here or access the link from the main Workshop page. Email RIT’s Center for Engaged Storycraft at ces@rit.edu or lxsgla@rit.edu if you have questions. Space is limited. There is a sliding scale for workshop participants. We are pleased to be able to offer CME (continuing medical education) credits for this workshop so please inquire if you are interested in that option
